Conversation Starters at Your Handcrafted Wood Table

With furniture as remarkable as this handcrafted wood table, you might worry that covering it up to serve dinner would be foolish. Fortunately, that is the best quality of functional artwork – you never have to feel guilty about getting a lot of good use out of it! Now, because you’ll be so delighted with your artisan-made furniture, you might find yourself wanting to boast about it to your friends or family at your next feast. Below are a few talking points to share with your loved ones, around your beautiful handcrafted wood table, of course:

Red Table with Six Stools

- This stunning Curly Red Oak tabletop is enhanced with a brilliant red dye to enhance this hardwood’s natural curl.

- The oak is framed with ash that has been ebonized, a technique that involves tinting the wood panels with a strong dye and a mixture of alcohol and water.

- This table is handcrafted by an artist in Massachusetts who loves creating objects that invite strong reactions, hence the bold red color! He describes his work as a combination of balance and tension.

Octotable

- The inlay that tops this eight-sided table is a reclaimed variety of wood called Sapele, which is a large tree native to tropical Africa. This same wood is used as the interior wood trim on some Cadillac car models.

- The Octotable is reminiscent of the Art Deco style that flourished internationally in the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. The look combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials, and is often characterized by bold geometric shapes.

Sculpture Under Glass

- The base of this table is created using a construction technique known as stacking. The artist begins by drawing a full size front view of the table showing the exact shape of the base. Each layer of wood is indicated with horizontal lines to view the width and angle of each piece in the stack. As the stack moves from the bottom layer to the top layer, the width and angle of each piece changes to conform to the teardrop shape. Then, the base is finished with a clear hand-rubbed finish to emphasize the beauty of the woods.

Steel Mill Table

-This Massachusetts artist creates custom sustainable furniture out of salvaged and reclaimed historical materials. This particular table was constructed out of a steel fire door from a 1906 wood mill, and reclaimed beams.

- In his studio in Rhode Island, this artist sculpts, designs, and builds furniture with hope that his work has a thoughtful impact on the world that we share, and a nostalgic connection to our past.

Live Life to the Fullest Dining Set

- Highly skilled artisans in Iowa hand-crafted this set of table and chairs with care and precision out of birch, poplar, and driftwood, and then added hand drawn, etched, and painted imagery.

- These incredible furnishings can be customized with your own themes, colors, dimensions, and even 3-D elements from carved wood, leather, metal, fabric, and more.
