The Banana Bowl Sconce is inspired by the functional shape of a classic banana leaf bowl - a Southeast Asian design used for a variety of needs. The traditional banana bowl is created by pinning a banana plant leaf into a bowl shape. For this sconce, fossilized cocoa leaves are hand-placed onto a standard UL-listed light shade backing and then laminated. The shade is open at the top and the bottom, allowing light to shine through upward and downward. The ambient lighting diffuses through the cocoa leaf shade.
The cocoa leaf panel is hand-stitched onto a wrought iron frame to form an arched bowl shade. A single abaca rope-wrapped metal stem and a bamboo rod accentuate the top and bottom.
